About us
Blastbeat is an award winning, fun and exciting, music and multimedia business programme offered to teenagers around the country to teach social entrepreneurial skills, promote young musicians, and support youth communities on a local and national level.
Blastbeat Education UK (Blastbeat) is a registered UK Charity No. 1136121.
The UK Department for Education approves and part funds the Blastbeat Schools Programme, as do charitable trusts and corporate entities.
Blastbeat leverages young people's interests in music, social media and making friends and money to help charities they choose and empower themselves in the process.
Blastbeat Final Winners 2010
Blastbeat inspires students back into the learning process; particularly those who are at risk of dropping out or who are not engaging well. Blastbeat allows them to shine at what they are interested in and passionate about.
Blastbeat brings both fun and relevance into education, leading to highly motivated students who love being part of Blastbeat, as it really works for them.
Blastbeat promotes and encourages young original songwriters, musicians and performance artists, supporting youth communities on a local and national level.
Teens develop their own music and social scene, running gigs for their peers and creating community and social capital to bring about change for the good of society.
The Blastbeat Education UK schools programme is a 3-month programme for secondary level students aged 14-18.
Students or youth groups form an Event Social Enterprise (ESE), assume a role in the company, and are tasked with planning, promoting, and staging a live music event.
Each ESE is divided into 3 teams‚ Business, Events, and Creative. Each team is made up of different individuals who take on individual roles and responsibilities.
Blastbeat help youths to start their own business
Each ESE is required to have a company meeting every week. A Blastbeat mentor will attend a company meeting for each school or youth club taking part in the programme on a fortnightly basis.
Blastbeat comprises 2 competitions in 1, an enterprise competition for the ESEs and a Battle of the Bands for the musicians.
Winning bands are selected from the school concerts by a panel of industry professionals and progress to UK Final. The winning band receives the prize of a development deal with Blastbeat International.
ESEs in each school carry out a variety of specific tasks throughout a 3/4-month module and are graded on a continuous assessment basis. 20% of the marks are allocated to their end of year presentation at the ESE Exhibition on the day of the UK Final.
The winning ESEs receive £2500 seed capital, and further mentoring courtesy of O2 Think Big, and £1000 for their school.
